Joliene is an artisanal bakery and cafe located at The Creamery Marketplace in San Luis Obispo, CA. The name Joliene is a nod to family and nostalgia (as it is a fusion of two of our grandmother’s names), and refers to mornings past eating and sharing quality food.
Our mission is to create a place of community, where we not only celebrate the bounty of the Central Coast, but also where patrons can come and get either their daily bread or a special treat to share with friends. All of our breads, pastries, cakes and cookies are made by hand using the highest quality ingredients we can source.
In addition to our daily bakes, we offer breakfast and lunch fare as well as gourmet coffee and tea from French Truck Coffee roasters out of New Orleans, LA.

With a lifelong passion for cooking, baking, and hospitality, Chloe Fertel has spent most of her career working in some of California’s most distinguished fine dining establishments. After graduating with a degree in Baking and Pastry Arts from The Culinary Institute of America, Chloe continued on as a fine dining pastry chef for restaurants all around the Bay Area and Napa Valley. Her career brought her to work in a number of Michelin-rated establishments including One Market, Meadowood, and, most notably, as the premier pastry chef for Silver Oak Cellars.
For Thomas Fertel, cooking is in his blood. Having been raised in a family of restaurateurs, he grew up learning and loving all aspects of fine dining and hospitality. With a deep passion for wine, he received a Master’s degree from Cal Poly’s Viticulture and Enology program. He soon became a rising star winemaker.. Thomas’ blends for wineries such as Frank Family, Napa Cellars, Wildhorse and J Wilkes not only brought him critical acclaim, but a full circle connection into the culinary arts.
Together, both Chloe and Thomas had dreams of one day moving back to the Central Coast and opening up their own family run artisan bakery, where they could showcase their love of classic French technique mixed with California’s world class agriculture. Everything they make daily at Joliene has history for them- from the breads made with an all natural starter from wine grapes in Napa, to the pastries, cakes and treats made from family recipes.. Chloe and Thomas continue to infuse their love and passion of baking into everything they make at Joliene.
You can find Chloe and Thomas in front of the oven or behind the counter daily, often assisted by their latest creation, their newborn foodie, Sebastian.
